There are countless reasons for a trip to Berlin. Ten of them will be briefly explained below.
Berlin is an international city
If you like multiculturalism and international flair, Berlin is the right place for you. This is especially true for the musical and gastronomic offerings of the German capital. The many nations living in Berlin each bring their own culture to urban life.
Cuisines from all over the world
On every corner in Berlin, you can sample culinary delights from one of the world’s many cuisines. Doner kebab has become famous, but Arabic, Persian, Indian and Chinese restaurants can also be found on almost every corner, complemented by specialties from Africa, America and even Australia.
City of contrasts
Berlin presents itself as a metropolis of contrasts. Magnificent castles, churches and palaces alternate with desolate prefabricated buildings in large housing estates and social ghettos. Wealth and poverty are always close together in the German capital. Glamour and desolation characterize the face of Berlin in equal measure.
Versatile sights
Sights from almost every era characterize the face of Berlin. Among the most popular attractions are the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag, the TV Tower and the Red City Hall, the countless museums, but also the individual districts with their subcultures. The eventful history makes a walk through Berlin unique.
Extensive walks
Yes, the German capital invites you to extended walks. Be it along the famous East Side Gallery or in Kreuzberg, around the former border or on the legendary Kurfürstendamm – Berlin is full of interesting routes that promise plenty of surprises. Street art in particular can be found in many corners of the metropolis.
Parks and green spaces
It’s so green – this phrase is especially true of Berlin. While in the center the extensive Tiergarten promises extensive explorations, on the outskirts of the city the Wannsee and the Großer Müggelsee attract bathers and leisure captains. An enchanting jewel is Peacock Island, but even in the vast Grunewald forest it is easy to forget that you are in a cosmopolitan city. Then there are the Zoological Gardens in the west and the even larger Friedrichsfelde Zoo around the palace of the same name in eastern Berlin.
Festivals and events
There is always something going on in Berlin. Whether at the Festival of Lights, the Carnival of Cultures or at one of the many concerts and festivals – there is an event to suit every guest. Internationally, Berlin has made a name for itself especially through its lively club scene. The Berghain alone magically attracts tourists from all over the world.
Shopping delights
Whether in the KaDeWe or in one of the numerous other department stores – for shopping friends Berlin holds a purchase offer ready, which looks for its equals in completely Germany. The Galeries Lafayette from Paris also has a branch in the German capital. On the Ku’damm, the branches of well-known fashion chains are lined up next to each other.
Tolerance is a top priority in Berlin
Berlin is characterized by openness. Here, everyone is allowed to live as they please. Subcultures are a common sight here. Spleens can be lived out and people tolerate each other. The typical Berlin snout may sound a bit coarse and unfriendly, but you will quickly find a connection, even if you just ask for directions or tell a joke in the subway.
Flea markets
You can buy just about anything at Berlin’s flea markets. The most famous of them is held at Mauerpark. Fashion, jewelry and antiques can be purchased here at a reasonable price. At the flea market on Arkonaplatz, for example, you can find books, records, furniture or vintage clothing. Each neighborhood surprises with its own unique atmosphere.
