Enjoy the Sun, Sand, and Sea in Islamorada, Florida

Have you ever dreamed of sitting on the white sand beaches of the Florida Keys? That dream can become a reality when you choose to visit Islamorada. This central Florida Keys destination is the perfect launching point for an amazing getaway.

Swim With Dolphins

If you’ve ever wanted to play with dolphins in the water, here’s your chance. There are several places in Islamorada to swim with dolphins as well as play, kiss, and hug them. Theater of the Sea, Dolphin Discovery, and Dolphins Cove are just a few places you can choose.

The one you pick will depend on the ages of those participating and what you want to experience. Some of the encounters include getting pulled by the dolphin’s dorsal fin and going for a belly swim.

Snorkeling and Scuba Diving

When you go to a place that has clear blue-green waters, you can’t help but want to dive in and explore. Snorkeling and scuba diving provide the perfect chance to see what goes on below the surface. There are plenty of companies in the area that can take you out on dives and show you the best views in the area.

Two local dive sites feature shipwrecks. Alligator Reef Lighthouse is a favorite snorkeling site because of the crystal blue waters, beautiful reef, and chance to see amazing sea creatures such as barracudas and small sharks. Going at sunset is breathtaking.

Plenty of Accommodations

What makes Islamorada so great is all of the options for hotels found here. While Key West appeals more to luxury visitors, and the hotel prices there reflect that, Islamorada appeals to families and those who are smart about how they spend their money. You’ll find Islamorada hotels from HotelPlanner to fit any budget, which goes a long way toward ensuring a wonderful vacation.

Beaches

While you’re in Islamorada, heading to the beach is a must. You’ll discover many options, such as Long Key State Park. Though some of the park is closed due to destruction from Hurricane Irma, there are still places where you can get in the water. Plus, it’s a lovely spot for finding shells.

Founders Park Public Beach, found at mile marker 81, is another quality option. There is a fee per person, but the beach is well maintained. Plus, there’s an Olympic pool you can visit. Another small beach perfect for families is Library Beach, which is found at mile marker 81.5. It gets its name because of its proximity to the public library.

Incredible Restaurants

In addition to activities, there are some great restaurants to try while in Islamorada. Cuban food is available throughout the Keys, providing amazing flavors at reasonable prices. Try out Habanos on the Creek, which offers up authentic Cuban foods such as fish sandwiches and blackened scallops. Other area favorites include Bayside Gourmet, Chef Michael’s, and M.E.A.T.

Islamorada is a wonderful destination in and of itself, and it also puts you close to everything else that the Florida Keys have to offer.
